The conical sander does an excellent job of doing what it is designed for but is terrible (and dangerous) if you are trying to take off too much material.

##tihuan2##I was in a similar situation having 150-grit on the conical and 80-grit on the flat disc. I ended up buying an extra flat-disk just for 150-grit sharpening. If I understand your question properly, you are wanting to use the extension-table-mounted sharpening guide with the conical sanding disc.

##tihuan2##The sanding disks probably work for very fine sanding. However, table saw arbors and bearings are designe for axial loads. A sanding disk will impart a lateral load...and depending on the type of sanding, that load can be significant (wear and tear on arbor and bearings >> increased run out). I don't use sanding disk on my table saws.
